"My Doctor told me I have Heel Spurs"
Posted: January 28th, 2021
Do you know how many times I here a patient tell me their "Heel Spurs are hurting, everyday. "My doctor took an x-ray and told me I have Heel Spurs".
Well, here is part of the truth, Heel Spurs are not the cause of the pain. Most of the time it happens to be a condition called Plantar Fasciitis an inflammation of the Plantar Fascia Ligament at the same area of the so called "Heel Spur". Plantar Fasciitis happens to be one of the most common problems I see on a daily basis.
For some patients Plantar Fasciitis can be disabling where its very difficult for them to ambulate throughout the day without pain. Then there are some patients that have it periodically depending on the certain activity they did the day before and what shoes they may have wore that day.
Plantar Fasciitis initially is treated conservatively. However, when all conservative measures like icing, arch support, oral anti-inflammatories, and corticosteroid injections fail, surgery maybe warranted.
